the emergent triad seems to have gone underground.

We had no takers at our last meeting...which seems odd given how many people are on the rum-runners list. I realize that kevin sinclair, tripp fuller, zach roberts are all gone but I had hopes to continue meeting.

Beverly and I are continuing work on starting an emergent faith community here in Winston-Salem with some others like Linda J.

This is our first attempt at a location between Greensboro and Winston Salem.

We will be gathering at "Indigo Joes" in the Target Center
off of South Main in K-Ville. From Business 40, take exit 14 then turn
left if you are coming from G-town, or right if you are coming from Winston Salem.

March 27 "The Atonement Cohort"

Hey Cohorteers,
Thursday March 27 we will have our march cohort. It will be after the rush of Holy Week, so hopefully more people will be able to be there that last years poorly timed gathering. We will meet 730 @ krankies. I am suggesting we discuss the atonement since it has come up before and is seasonally fitting. So if anyone has an article they want to put out for sharing post or link it to the group page. Looking forward to seeing you all. Feel free to evangelize and bring a friend.

Here is some liturgy by Sledge that I particularly like.....I shared it at our last cohort get-together ....when Pete and I broke bread together at Krankies.......

God of all times and places, we move into (toward) this new year as travelers seeking the shelter of your presence in all our comings and goings. Like the magi we move from familiar surroundings, crossing borders to enter unknown times and places.

But we study maps and guidebooks, not stars. We are guided by calendar and agendas, not faithful attention to the signs of your presence. Transform the foreign geography of our lives into a land of promise.

Guide our hearts as we sort through our possessions for the things we will carry on our trips. Enlarge our tents. May we welcome guests with your hospitality, offering a place for them to tell stories or to rest their voices and their souls.

Make of our homes a sanctuary. Acquaint us with the pain of those who seek refuge, a safe place from harm. Remind us that your children do not have to be physically homeless to be without a home.

Extend our tables. Multiply our invitations. Gudie us to persons who need to share a meal rather than eat alone.

Move us into the landscape of your world. Change us from the observers of ancient scenes to lively participants in the drama of today.

Remind us that the word is not confined to an address, a country, or a government but came to live where we live, full of grace and truth and humanity and hospitality.

Assure us that we do not travel alone. Guide us through stretches of desert to the oasis of your love. Shine your Light on our path, showing us the way to those who sit in darkness.

Help us carry the memory of home, dropping it like bread crumbs in the laps of those along our journey, so that they, and we, may find our way back to you, our eternal home.

Cobalt Season @ Cohort

The Dogwood Abbey is hosting the Cobalt Season for a house show
Tuesday November 6th. This will be the November Cohort.

Cost = $5.00 or purchase of a CD.

May's cohort meet-up went great. Four of us "insiders" were joined by two "outsiders" down at Silver Moon Saloon and after a lively conversation we began to see that the lines between insider/outsider had been blurred. A concrete example of the beauty of the emerging conversation. Next meet-up will be on June 5 in Greensboro....more details later.

7pm Thursday March 29th Tim Conder is going to visit the Triad cohort. We are going to meet at the Wake Forest University Divinity School in room 202 of Wingate Hall. I posted a poster on our group page. Let's us this to get our name out there and perhaps gain a few new voices in the group. The div school is going to invite people who came to McLaren when he was here, so hopefully we will have new friends there.

This weekend's conversation was amazing. Tripp and I will have the podcasts up very soon. They will be on The Greensboro Abbey's site. Look for them in the "Abbey Sounds" section.

I had a great time with you all. I just e-mailed Anthony Smith with this idea and I want to pitch it to you all here. I really would like to see the cohorts from Charlotte, Raleigh, and The Triad get together maybe once a year. I propose...for discussion, that we look at gathering at the Franciscan Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC in the fall. It is just north of Greensboro, so it will not be a long trek for anyone coming from the surrounding cohorts. I know the rector there. Plus it is beautiful new facility. You will fall in love with the place...I promise. Let's have some serious conversation on this.

I think we did some good tilling and seeding this weekend. I want to make sure we water, fertilize, and tend. I believe Emergent folk are attempting to embrace God's present future that is becoming from ancient roots rather than fighting to maintain a sentimental religious memory. That motivates and excites me on a daily basis. I hope it does you as well.

Finding Where you Need to Go...(For non-campus participants.)

For those checking this site...since Tony Jones linked us in his last blog...finding your way around UNCG's campus should not be too difficult.

Free parking will be available at College Park Baptist Church which is on the corner of Aycock and Walker Ave. (map)

From the church parking lot, you will walk across Aycock and follow Walker Ave. down to the corner of Walker & Stirling St. The EUC (Elliot University Center) will be diagonally to your right. (Large rotunda on front...across big green lawn.) All activities, with the exception of lunch on Saturday, will be in that building. Student helpers will be on hand to direct you to the Maple room and the lounges.

February 23-24 Emergent Gurus Tony Jones and Scot Mcknight will be in Greensboro for a 'Conversation Weekend.' It is an ecumenical endeavor and has been completely funded by these groups, so it is free and as open as the gospel. Any and all interested are invited. It will take place at the Elliot Center on the campus of UNCG and College Park Bpt. has a free open parking lot 200 yards away for guests to park in. Here's the schedule as it now stands. Invite friends, family, and enemies.

Friday:
7:00 PM = Large Group
7:45 PM = Conversation Break
8:00 PM = Large Group
8:45 PM = Conversation Break
9:00 PM = Cohort Meet-up at Natty Green’s

Saturday:
10:00 – 11:30 AM = Conversation Groups, Session #1
12:00 PM = Lunch for everyone in the ACM Center

We are going to have our next meetup Thursday Fed 8th at 7pm in Winston
Salem at Elliot's Review (an artsy coffee bar). The pot-luck was canceled due to a
scheduling error (i realized i had to have a class to finish div school
this semester that met that weekend) so we will definitely have to do
it soon, maybe after it warms up a bit. Any way, I hope to see you all
there for some Mcknight and rum-running conversation. If you have
